Holly Woods is a force to be reckoned with. She is funny, smart and witty, AND she runs a successful studio in the East end of Cobourg called, you guessed it “Holly Woods Studio” (541 William St #4a, Cobourg to be exact). If you’re looking for some new eyebrows, she’s your gal. Holly has done extensive schooling and has perfected the microblading technique. From brow to wow. I just made that up. (not really but I can pretend)  It’s a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo and if you’re feeling like you’re sick and tired of penciling in your brows, or for other personal reasons, tattooing them in is the way to go. With the name Holly Woods, how can you possibly go wrong? As soon as you walk in to her store you will feel immediately at ease. She’s easy to talk to, easy to listen to and as you can see from her pics, easy to look at:)Feel like getting your nails done? CHECK. Feel like a fancy night out on the town and you suck at doing your own make up? CHECK. Feel like having someone TEACH you how to do your own make up? CHECK. Need a little bit of your body waxed? CHECK. How about a little facial. CHECK

Holly, when not in the studio is likely out and about at a photo shoot, wedding or other fancy event. (hint hint to all of my upcoming brides that still need a make-up artist) She has been in the health and beauty industry for 12 years and really really knows her stuff. For a full list of her services check out her website at www.hollywoodsstudio.ca. For a much much more detailed list of awesome stuff about Holly, jump on over to Lindsey’s blog and see what special things she has to say www.listwithlinz.ca (she’s special alright)

Holly TRIED to take a picture of us, clearly she likes the flawless look

This weeks adventure couldn’t have come at a better time. 2 years today my son will have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Two years of highs and lows, ups and downs, bumps in the road, learning curves, making friends, losing friends. SO much to deal with. It is a daily struggle that many if not most people have literally no idea about. Type 1 Diabetes  is NOT a punchline in a joke, it is a roller coaster of blood sugars that are  very unpredictable. Imagine living a life where insulin is what is keeping you alive. Too much of it or too little of it can cause you to go into a coma. Imagine going to bed at night with the thought that you could not wake up the next morning. THAT is what Diabetes is. Click HERE to read the post about his diagnosis. SO, with all that said, Lindsey and I headed to Daddy’s Tattoos here in Cobourg where I got a tattoo to symbolically support my son and all of his daily struggles. The location is on my finger for all of the thousands (yes I said thousands) of times he has had to prick his finger to test his blood in the last two years, the colour is red to represent the blood that he has to use to test his blood sugar,  and the heart is a given. I LOVE him.

Let me tell you a little bit about Daddy’s Electric Tattoos. Randy instantly made us feel welcomed. If you don’t know Randy, it’s quite possible you’ve seen him and his awesome large holed earlobes around town (see pic ) AND he’s literally covered in all kinds of amazing tattoos. I asked him how many he has and he has absolutely no idea. Super friendly guy and I loved hearing his life stories (he should write a book). I personally haven’t met his wife (she works next door at Bri’s Grooming), but I’ve heard many many people talk about how great she is as well.

The wonderful, colourful artist that I was lucky enough to have (Koren) made sure I was comfortable and stress free (as much as that is possible). She made sure I had eaten breakfast so I didn’t pass out (at this point I’m thinking I just might) but I was good to go. Now let me tell you. I have two other tattoos. One on my shoulder, and one on my lower back. The pain that this tiny 5 minute tattoo caused me was seriously like 10x more painful than the other two larger ones. If I wasn’t being documented (thanks Dawson) then I think  a) I might have cried or b) stopped after the first dot. Honestly it was like someone took a lighter and held the flame underneath my finger for five straight minutes.  And I personally do not think I’m a wussy. But….after this, I’m thinking everyone in town is going to disagree with that statement.

All in all, I’m super happy I got my tattoo, I’ve talked about doing it for 2 years since his diagnosis. I love it. It’s perfect and it’s exactly what I had hoped it would be. So thank you Daddy’s for taking some time out of your day to share with the lovely town of Cobourg all about your downtown business. If you’re looking for a tattoo give them a call or find them on Facebook HERE. To read more in depth words about Daddy’s check out Lindsey’s blog HERE

  • Lea - Sounds like another excellent adventure! Having just returned from a hospital stay for my T1, I love the awareness you continue to bring to the disease. A finger tattoo to represent our T1s is fantastic. I just wish you did not say it was such a painful spot! :)ReplyCancel

    • Erin - Thanks Lea, you can TOTALLY do it. It’s 5 minutes. Very long painful 5 minutes, but totally worth it :)ReplyCancel

What can I possibly say about Francesca and Karma Lifestyle? First of all when you walk into Karma, the first thing you feel is peace. It has an immediate calming effect on you, which I TOTALLY need these days.  They say Yoga reduces stress so I was eager to get into the studio but not before I am greeted by the oh so adorable Zoya (the Queen is pictured in her favourite chair). Lindsey and I were excited to try out the new Aerial yoga that my daughter has been practicing over the past few months and Francesca did NOT disappoint. Aerial Yoga is a fun twist on yoga poses combined with acrobatics as you are suspended from the ceiling, standing into the silks or supported by the silks with your feet on the floor. I’m not gonna lie, I was terrified. I have serious issues with trust. So for me to trust a piece of fabric to hold MY body from the ceiling, took a giant leap of faith. And guess what! I’m here to talk about it. I didn’t fall, and I didn’t die. The fabric is totally safe and I never fell once (Francesca was there spotting and helping the entire time) And as many of you know, if someone’s going to hurt themselves, it’s gonna be me. I’m sure many of you would be shocked to hear that I am not flexible (haha, not a chance, I’m pretty sure EVERYONE knows I am NOT flexible) but somehow I managed to get into a few poses and felt some really great stretches. Lindsey was much more daring than I was and even did some funky poses upside down.(yay Linds) (and yay Dawson for giving it a shot and being our photographer) If you’re looking for some amazing yoga classes go to their Website and see what is a good fit for you. Francesca makes you feel totally at ease. She would never put you in a class that you aren’t comfortable in. She will find a perfect fit for all levels (even a level zero such as myself) If you haven’t given Aerial yoga (or any yoga) a shot feel free to head on over to Karma Lifestyle to check it out, you won’t be disappointed. Also, you will smell amazing when you leave because she has some yummy smelling essential oils for you to try. Head on over to Lindsey’s blog where you will find a much more detailed post about Karma and our experience there,  and of course if you’re looking to buy a house contact Lindsey at Listwithlinz.ca.IMG_2214IMG_2229IMG_2232IMG_2202IMG_2192IMG_2183IMG_2172IMG_2158IMG_2242-2IMG_2241IMG_2235IMG_2225IMG_2149IMG_2143IMG_2133IMG_2131IMG_2116IMG_2115IMG_2108

“Nourish is more than just a spa – it’s an experience. We love what we do! We’re enthusiastic. We’re energetic. We’re friendly. We’re professional, and we’ve got spirit!”

I pulled this off of their website HERE, and let me tell you, Lindsey and I could not agree more. From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed by everyone that worked there. The ambiance was perfect and the atmosphere was a place I knew I could settle in to. My lovely esthetician Brittany was super. She laughed at all of my jokes, and made me feel at ease (even if I wasn’t funny….although the fact that my boobs fall into my armpits when I lay down, is funny) My facial was a perfect balance of soothing and therapeutic (as you can see in the oh so lovely photo that Lindsey took of me that I, and my hair, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves) After that extreme luxury she gave me a manicure and pedicure in giant comfy chairs, with a heated wrap, candy and water with strawberries floating around inside (delish).  Nourish is owned and operated by medical foot health specialist (Chiropodist) Cristol Smyth. If you’re lucky enough, you may even get to meet her adorable little baby if he pops by for a visit while you’re there. Thank you so so much to Cristol and to Brittany(who I now love cause she said I had good skin, well she almost said that, she actually said my skin wasn’t as bad as I said it was), and Cheryl for being so welcoming (everyone working was just really lovely), and to quote Cristol during her interview with Lindsey (while I was off being pampered) “when a woman’s whole self is well, she thrives”, so let the thriving begin!!. If you haven’t checked out what Lindsey had to say, head over to her blog for a much more detailed  post.
